Art + Work Hub
Situated in close proximity to the highway and right next to the wildlife overpass, this plot features the perfect balance of accessibility and serenity. ’t Gooi is known as a wealthy suburban municipality, but also as a community with a great interest for culture and visual arts. This inspired the proposed program for the Art + Work Hub in Laren: a combination of high-end flexible work spaces and exhibition rooms.
The co-working program is distributed over a variety of flexible workstations and offices, available to individuals as well as businesses. The remaining spaces facilitate social interaction: there’s a café, espresso bar and several art galleries, where people come together to meet, discuss and explore. The program caters to the many professionals in the area who are seeking a comfortable workplace in a cultural, social and serviced environment without having to commute to a bigger city.
The building is primarily constructed of CLT to embed the volume in the surrounding landscape and reduce its carbon footprint. The green roof, which is accessible to the public, has a meticulously designed grid that varies between open, partly open and closed. This creates the perfect balance of direct sunlight, filtered sunlight and artificial light accommodating to the the specific program of the space beneath.
