History

Architecture is memory. Architecture cannot be seen as separate from its own history, in the same way that people cannot exist without a personal and collective history. Since its founding in 1962, our firm has sought to create architecture that serves people. At the same time, we want to elicit delight and amazement. The challenge is to create designs that are ‘bearers’ of a memory, but in a contemporary manner. This way, tradition becomes adventure.

From our extensive portfolio, we have made a selection of our earlier works that reflects this. It confirms the strength behind a number of essential constants typical of Dam & Partners architecten that closely bind its former and more recent work: the contrast between the past and the present in the former Abbey of Middelburg, the play of light in Seinpost Residence, the celebration of space in the Amsterdam Music Theatre, or the strong relationship between indoor and outdoor space as expressed in the private houses in Vogelenzang and Bentveld.
