Meet project Boegbeeld: a refined and nautical design at the NDSM-wharf

Urban living on former Docklands
Text by

The project, consisting of commercial space and 169 residential units, is part of the broader transformation of the former shipyard to a vibrant mixed-use urban area. The sale of 79 free sector units will start at the end of the year.

Architect Laurens Kaatee shares: “We aimed to infuse Boegbeeld with an intimate character by designing five unique buildings, each with its own entrance and architecture. Together, they form a cohesive and appealing ensemble, clearly related yet distinct.”

The design introduces a refined scale to the neighbourhood, contrasting with the existing surrounding superblocks. The five new buildings will feature a robust and resilient appearance, using materials reminiscent of the NDSM’s nautical and industrial heritage. Red, brown and grey colours are the prevailing tone of the buildings, all expressed through different materials and textures.

Construction is planned to start at the beginning of 2025.
