amsteldijk interiors

Located at a key point along the Amstel River in Amsterdam, Dam and Partners Architects were tasked with transforming an office building into a landmark that harmonizes with its surroundings. Acknowledging the importance of the site, our design integrates modern sustainability principles with a timeless aesthetic by proposing a timber pavilion that complements the natural setting of the adjacent park.

The interior design emphasizes openness and connectivity. One of the key elements is the uninterrupted circulation on the ground floor. By reimagining the building’s footprint, we created a more fluid and streamlined structure, seamlessly guiding visitors through the space. This focus on movement extends into the heart of the building, where a double-height central passage serves as a visual and physical link between the park and the nearby intersection, providing users with a welcoming, spacious environment.

Timber plays a central role not only structurally but also as the primary interior material. Inside, the design is warm and tactile, with wood cladding enveloping the circulation cores and a sculptural louvered ceiling drawing visitors through the lobby and passageways. The interior wood finishes emphasize the connection between nature and the built environment, creating a space that is both functional and serene. This meticulous attention to detail, from the use of natural materials to the careful interplay of light and texture, showcases the building as a modern symbol of timber construction in Amsterdam.
