As part of a large entertainment programme on Arena Boulevard in Amsterdam-Zuidoost, Dam & Partners Architecten designed a theatre building with two theatre spaces and, among other things, a jazz café and a grand café on the triangular end of the boulevard opposite Amsterdam ArenA.
On one side, the building is raised above ground level by columns. Here, escalators lead visitors to a round patio with glass balustrades, also supported by columns, that lends access to the foyers and the theatre spaces. Over the patio, the round shape recurs in a large mezzanine and continues up to an opening in the roof. The curved shape of the large glass bay windows that face Arena Boulevard on the foyer level refer to the patio inside.
